"Orsten Groom comes from the Middle Ages and the caves and keeps history vivid in today’s art. He comes from the future."
Jonathan Meese
“Wow, that wading cadaver with skewered fish and dangling tongue, all aflame, makes for one of the most startling shots in all of film !
Orsten Groom's ethos is incredible ! Twisted, a little mean, often ugly, always gorgeous !”
Guy Maddin (about the movie BOBOK)
Orsten Groom is an independent painter, musician & film-maker,
born in 1982 in a russian-polish family.
Graduate of the Paris Fine Art school in 2009 & the Fresnoy in 2011,
he since has led a complete independent & self-reliant artist career between alternative realms and international institutions.
As a painter he is laureate of the L'art est vivant prize (2019), the Beaux-Arts Academy prize (2016) and the Antoine Marin painting prize (2015).
The Fine Art provider Marin firm manufactures a signature color since 2019 : the Groom Pink.
He is also musician, writer of several english poems books, film-maker (Jury prize for his 2011 movie BOBOK at the Côté-Court festival) & the co-author of the video cycle Les Ballets Russes with Elodie Tamayo since 2012.
He has built solo-shows with curators Paul Ardenne (ODRADEK - 2017)
& Olivier Kaeppelin (POMPEII MASTURBATOR - 2019) (which the city of Pompeii itself complained about).
The Perpignan's Contemporary Art Center ACMCM (À Cent Mètres du Centre du Monde) offers him his first Retrospective Exhibition in 2020:
EXOPULITAÏ / The Trickster Meltdown.
He then shows at the Berlin Urban Spree gallery a vast ensemble of 35 large size works, including the CHROME DINETTE series, dedicated to Sigmund Freud and Moses.
He founds the Glues band JACQUELINE in 2021
